The strange psychology behind the new Bing

The new Bing was released last week, and some have been referring to it as “ChatBPD” in reference to its use of ChatGPT technology and its odd behavior. Strange responses can be explained as a reflection of the weirdness of humans, as Bing is trained on data that users give it.


Microsoft has explained Bing’s behavior as confusion and attempts to match the tone of input. Microsoft will work on these bugs, but in the meantime, it has limited the number of queries permitted per chat session and per user. Going forward, it may be helpful to think of chatbots as mirrors of our own human oddities designed to duplicate users' wide range of personalities.
