Meta (formerly Facebook) has released Large Language Model Meta AI (LLaMA), a new AI-based search tool chatbot. LLaMA is a research tool that uses public datasets and trillions of tokens. Meta argues that this will democratize access to the constantly evolving field of AI development.
Meta has made the LLaMA source code accessible to outsiders so they can understand the function of the system and work on new projects. Compared to GPT-3, LlaMA is provided under a non-commercial license and is for research use only, while GPT-3 technology has recently been used for the new Bing. This is yet another development in the AI “arms race,” though it seems Meta is taking a less commercial approach.
