Is there a point to the chatbot boom?

According to Slate, the purpose of recent developments in AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Bing is not the bot itself—rather, it is to sell the underlying AI technology. The released chatbots acted as large-scale demos for companies interested in integrating AI programming. OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google are all making the underlying technology available in the coming month.


Companies can use these chatbots in a variety of ways, whether as customer service agents, intelligent game characters, or to build client relationships. The desire to attract companies might be the reason Microsoft was willing to release such a volatile chatbot. The point was not to create the best bot but demonstrate the possibilities.
