Google’s Bard is meant to be boring

According to Vox, Google’s AI chatbot, Bard, is fairly boring—and that’s on purpose. Microsoft released ‘new Bing,’ equipped with AI capabilities six weeks ago, and it seemed like Google was playing catch-up. While Bard and Bing are quite similar, Bard is much drier and more uncontroversial. Microsoft has been in hot water for a number of ‘evil,’ or off-the-rails answers from Bing, so in comparison Bard is much safer.


Google’s reputation for reliability is probably the reason for its more boring chatbot. After an early demo of Bard made a factual error, Google’s stock dropped 7 percent. While Google had to release a chatbot to demonstrate that it wasn’t lagging behind Microsoft, it has been more concerned about backlash.
