German publisher Axel Springer warns AI could replace journalists

The CEO of German media group Axel Springer has announced that job cuts lie ahead as AI makes many jobs supporting journalism redundant. Last month, BuzzFeed made a similar announcement, planning to use AI to “enhance” content and quizzes.


While the use of AI in journalism can speed up the production of many articles, there are still limitations. Some note that more than half of AI-generated stories need to be edited for errors, including the fabrication of references and using fake quotes or incorrect information. While AI may increasingly aid media, specialists and investigative journalists will need to stay.
