According to Engadget, President Biden has been meeting with science and technology advisors to discuss potential risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence. It appears that the president is not wholly convinced that AI is risk-free, noting that the dangers of AI remain to be seen. While the US likely will not follow Italy’s steps in banning ChatGPT, Biden believes that tech companies are responsible for ensuring their products' safety.
These meetings follow much discourse recently on the lack of regulation in AI and the slow pace at which policymakers are addressing concerns. Most agree that there is an abundance of opportunities as AI continues to develop, but there are concerns as well.
