Astrobiologists train AI to find life on Mars

AI could be the next kind of space explorer. Researchers have trained AI to find evidence of past or present life in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Fewer team members were needed and the AI improved the chances of finding living organisms. These results bode well for sending AI-aided drones and rovers to Mars.

This first step towards reliably detecting proof of life using AI could be revolutionary for astrobiology.
