AI is turning the world of the game Go upside down

A major cheating scandal involving AI is erupting in Asia as a Go competition has been embroiled in controversy. A newcomer, Li Xuanhao of China defeated reigning world champion Shin Jin-seo of South Korea; however, Li’s own teammate has accused him of cheating using AI. Many are calling for new measures to prevent AI-assisted cheating. For thousands of years, Go has been considered the height of intellectual pursuit in East Asia, but AI has been changing things.


Cheating has been a problem in Go competitions across Asia, so officials are trying to find a way to live with AI in the sport. It will be interesting to see how the sport develops as AI becomes more widespread.
