AI-generated writing is flooding literary magazines


Writers are turning to AI to write fiction, but editors of literary magazines can usually tell right away. Editors have reported that multiple stories with the same title are being submitted, that “authors” will submit writing without even putting down their names, and manuscripts have different titles than indicated in the submission form. These are all markers of AI-written work.


While editors have learned to spot these works, the increase in submissions has caused problems. Reviewing submissions is taking longer and longer, making it harder to weed out good stories. It has even led to submission closure for some magazines. However, the similarities between AI-generated stories indicate that creative writers should have nothing to worry about.
