According to Guardian Australia, AI-generated voices can fool the voice recognition systems used by the Australian Taxation Office to verify user identities. A journalist generated a clone of their own voice and was able to use it to gain access to their account.
While the office claims the system can tell when someone is using a recording or pretending to be someone else, AI-generated voiceprints have bypassed the security system. While biometrics have been hailed as the most secure form of identification, clearly technology is still vulnerable.
